Gig Review
Saturday 23rd October
Yay! Choke night! Met up with Christina and Paula and got a taxi into town - bloody lightweights.

Max Milton Quartet. A more focused performance than Thursday night's unplugged set. For the first thirty seconds of the opening track, I had the same feeling as I did on Thursday, but it soon settled down into a long, gorgeous, string based instrumental piece, which was followed by a couple of more traditional songs. A lovely performance.
Rating: 8/10

White Trash Ambition rock. They have a variety of influences - grunge, heavy rock, prog amongst them, that means I don't get bored of them as the style is ever evolving during the set. Add in some great guitar riffs and a lot of energy and you get a lot of fun.
Rating: 8/10

Flipron try to do what War Against Sleep do, but don't quite have the songs or the charisma to pull it off. Rather bland, and another band who sound like they belong in a smokey Las Vegas nightclub.
Rating: 4/10
Christina always nags me to take photos...

...so here's the good lady herself with her fellah.

War Against Sleep - it's the songs, and Duncan's voice and personality, that make this band stand out. Piano-led torch songs that invite comnparison to the Devine Comedy, but, in my opinion, damn sight better songs. And we got them to play 'Damaged Woman' by shouting it at them repreatedly.
Rating: 8/10
Went back to Duncan's afterwards. Got rather stoned. Laughed at Christina's choice of music (ABC - 'Poison Arrow'? Why?). Thanks to them both for their hospitality (and to Duncan for a copy of the album). Crashed over there, but woke up stupidly early again and walked home. I took a wrong turning somewhere and ended up at the Eastgate Centre. Never trust my sense of direction.
